SUPERNATURAL
Here's a show I don't find enough material on -- SUPERNATURAL. It's a great show and
I don't know why it doesn't get more press. Here's a link to some great pictures I
found from the season premiere

WEEKEND BOX OFFICE
Variety reports that TROPIC THUNDER pulled in an estimated $8.2 million Friday and topped
STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS and THE DARK KNIGHT. Playing in 3,319 theaters, Paramount-DreamWorks'
THUNDER advanced its overall cume to $19.2 million. It is still estimated that the action
comedy could pull in a $20+ million Friday-Sunday haul similar to that of PINEAPPLE EXPRESS
last weekend.
George Lucas' animated production CLONE WARS, distributed by Warner Bros., drew $6.2
million from 3,452 locales in second place. The PG-rated pic, which features voiceovers
from STAR WARS thespians Samuel L. Jackson and Christopher Lee, could potentially get a
boost from Saturday matinees as is typical with toon fare.
Even though Warner Bros.' THE DARK KNIGHT took third yesterday with $5 million at 3,590
sites, the superhero pic only weathered a 35% dip in its fifth Friday. Having accumulated
$459.7 million to date, DARK KNIGHT is on the verge of overtaking the $460.1 million
domestic B.O. of the 1977 STAR WARS and its 1997 reissue on the all-time domestic
grossers list.
Fox's Kiefer Sutherland horror-thriller MIRRORS took fourth place with $4.2 million on
2,664 overtaking Sony's Judd Apatow prod PINEAPPLE EXPRESS which placed fifth with $3.2
million in its second Friday; down 60%. Through its first 10 days, EXPRESS has racked
up $56.1 million from 3,072 playdates.
It was a good day for limited fare with MGM's Weinstein Co. release VICKY CRISTINA
BARCELONA leading the pack. The Woody Allen directed romantic comedy raked in $1.1
million from 692 theaters, giving the helmer his best opening day since 2000's
"Small Time Crooks" ($1.09 million). "Crooks," distributed by DreamWorks, went on
to post a three-day opening of $3.9 million.
Summit's 3-D animated pic FLY ME TO THE MOON featuring the voices of Tim Curry and
Christopher Lloyd opened to a solid $700,000 at 452 locations. Overture's Luke Wilson
comedy HENRY POOLE IS HERE posted $245,000 from 527 sites.
CRYPTOZOO CREW
The Hollywood Reporter writes that Alcon Entertainment has picked up the rights
to CRYPTOZOO CREW, a graphic novel by Jerry Carr and Allan Gross, hiring screenwriter
Joe Gazzam to adapt it into a big screen feature. Alcon's Andrew Kosove and Broderick
Johnson will produce with Lloyd Phillips and Circle of Confusion's production arm.
CRYPTOZOO follows a member of a secret organization charged with protecting the
identity of strange and rare animals classified as Cryptids who teams with a beautiful
doctor in a quest to protect a one-of-a-kind species from falling into the wrong hands.
QUARANTINE
Screen Gems has launched the full official
website for Quarantine, opening in theaters on October 10. The horror-thriller stars
Jennifer Carpenter, Jay Hernandez, Columbus Short, Greg Germann, Steve Harris, Dania
Ramirez, Rade Sherbedgia and Jonathon Schaech.

THE CHANGELING PREMIERES
The New York Film Festival (NYFF) announced today that Changeling will be the
centerpiece of the festival(September 26 =96 October 12, 2008.
The Changeling may also be shown at the Vienna Film Festival and the Toronto
International Film Festival (TIFF).
When asked if he would attend these events, JMS responded:
At this point, I'm planning to be at the Deauville Film Festival and the New York
Film Festival for the premieres there. There still hasn't been any confirmation that
I've seen on the others, so until there's an announcement, I'm hanging fire. I don't
yet have a firm date on when Changeling screens, only that it's somewhere in the
middle of the festival.
Should be pretty exciting all around.
NEW SCRIPT BOOK COMING SOON - ASK JMS A QUESTION
Here is a note from the Babylon 5 script team:
Later this year we will be releasing the "Babylon 5 Scripts of J. Michael Straczynski:
TV Movies". With this book is a special opportunity. J. Michael Straczynski is letting
fans submit questions he will respond to in the introduction about the four TV Movies
"Thirdspace", "The River of Souls", "Legend of the Rangers" or "The Lost Tales "
CRITICAL NOTE:
No questions will be personally answered. A committee will select the
questions that JMS will respond to from the submissions received. All responses will
appear in the forthcoming "Babylon 5 Scripts of J. Michael Straczynski: TV Movies"
being released later this year.
Questions are being accepted by the official submission form only. Go to
http://b5quotes.com/tinc?key=Q8SJLjPQ&formname=AskJMS to submit a question to JMS.
BABYLON PODCAST: SHOW 124
Welcome to Show #124!
Kosh. Rastaman. I got nothin’.
Feedbackapalooza Part Deux!! Chris Lester from Metamor City Podcast and C.A. Sizemore
are still in on the Feedback Fun.
Colin doesn’t appreciate the tone of JMS’ announcement; Freehold South chimes in on
the JMS announcement, and feels blindsided by it; Bethany from OK comments on “Into
the Fire”, agreeing with Tim’s desire to see what was going on in the Alliance ships
saving Sheridan and Delenn, and disagreeing with Summer calling the Vorlons/Shadows
“whiny”.
Email from Jerry in Ashburn comments on alternatives to deeper explorations of the
revelations from “Into the Fire”, and suggests that “Intersections in Real Time”
could have been cut (we disagree!); Edmund weighs in on the JMS announcement,
theorizing that JMS might be trying to flex his newly found status to see what
he might be able to create; John in Birmingham agrees with Brad’s viewpoint on JMS’
announcement (a comment from PodCulture).
New question: Vipers vs Starfuries? What do you think? Summer thinks the Vipers might
actually take out the Starfuries, and while Thunderbolts might fare a shade better,
they’d still lose out.
Mike Smithwick responds with what he would have cut from B5, and what he would have
added in; Ann in CA wonders if JMS’ announcement was more of an indication that he
hasn’t had the chance to really focus on creating more B5 stories, be it lack of
time or introduction of a block; an X-Files tangent leads to a comparison between
Chris Carter’s long-term work versus JMS’ long-term work.
Jeffrey notes that we haven’t gotten Christopher Franke and Ed Wasser for us to talk
to, and promises to do better; comments on inconsistencies “Into the Fire”; Andy
comments on the “Into the Fire” discussion, and chimes in on what he thinks could
have happened had Londo failed in his plan to kill Cartagia and destroy the Shadow
ships on Centauri Prime; Valerie in MD disagrees with Tim’s opinion that “The Long
Night” was a bad title… she also would love to listen to a Lensman podcast, and is
waiting for our commentary on the Script Books (we’re working on that last one).
Go check out Deep Geeking when you get a
chance, and if you want to contribute something, get ahold of Summer.

How do you feel about JMS' posting about the future of Babylon 5? Do
you agree with him that if Warners isn't ready to fully fund a
project, he should not do it? Do you feel he is just ready to move on?
Send in your thoughts and comments to
sgbruckner@aol.com. I will post them on the
Discussion Page for everyone to share and enjoy. There are some good ones so
far. Add yours! If you see an old topic you want to respond to, go right ahead.
We enjoy hearing from you.
While Andreas Katsulas (G'Kar), Rick (Biggs) and Tim (Choate) are no longer with us,
we will not forget their wonderful personalities and talent -- as well as their
significant contributions to BABYLON 5. Be sure to visit

information about memorial efforts. Until we met again, in a place where no
shadows fall.

THE DEADBOOKS PROJECT - LAUNCHES AUGUST 18
Here's something new for you to take a look at.
The creator of The Deadbooks Project was looking for a new form of SF/Horror entertainment.
With the help of 30 actors and about 40 musical groups from almost as many countries, he is
taking a novel and transforming it into something that has not been seen on the Net. It's not
really a novel anymore, but nor is it a movie, nor an old-time radio show, though it contains
attributes of all those story-telling techniques. He calls it a Hyper-Serialization.
Web-launch of the first 10 hour season is set for August 18.
Right now there are movie trailers on
YouTube giving everyone a sneak peak at what PantherRun Productions has created. If you
have a moment, would you please drop by YouTube and put in DeadBooks…

REVIEW
I hadn't watched this series when it first came on the tube. I was never a fan of the
original movies, but when I began watching TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES, I got
hooked. It is an interesting and exciting drama that reminds me a lot of some very old
TV series -- like THE IMMORTAL. In this case however, the baddies are almost invincible
robots.
Lena Headey is wonderful as Sarah Connor and Summer Glau is terrific as their
protector. If you have an afternoon when it's raining and not much on TV (and that happen
more and more lately), pick up this series and give it a try. Season Two begins shortly
and you'll be able to catch up very quickly.

WITCHBLADE: THE COMPLETE SERIES
Release date: July 29, 2008
Official Website: www.witchbladedvd.com
Witchblade: The Complete Series
Synopsis:
In this adaptation of the Top Cow comic book, Witchblade is the story of a New York
detective, Sara "Pez" Pezzini, whose search for justice brings her into contact with
the Witchblade, an ancient, intelligent, living weapon so powerful it can battle
Earth's darkest evil forces. Week in and week out, "Pez" employs her skills as a
police detective to fight crime. She finds she must employ the Witchblade to combat
a much greater and frighteningly organized conspiracy of evil that threatens the
very soul of humanity. As Sara tries to keep the secret of the Witchblade, do her
job and have a personal life, she finds that her most formidable adversary may be
the Witchblade itself.
REVIEW:
I remember this series when it was on TNT and thought it was absolutely awesome. The
special effects for a TV drama were just astounding. Yancy Butler was unbelievable as
Sarah Pezzini - in the title role. She was perfect to play this very conflicted person
who saw so much injustice around her and was trying to make a difference not only be
being a policeman -- but by being a good policeman.
This was one of the most under-rated TV series of its day. The cast was wonderful and
you couldn't wait for the next week to see what would happen next as Sarah learned more
about the Witchblade and why she was chosen to wear it.

REVIEW
To me, this is the BEST BATMAN movie to date. While I loved Michael Keaton as BATMAN, Christian
Bale gives a more somber look to the caped crusader. Michael Caine is just wonderful as Alfred
as are Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman.
While the story of BATMAN has been shown in many ways, Christopher Nolan does a wonderful
job of adding tone and emotion through lighting and shadows. Liam Neeson as Bruce Wayne's
early mentor is awesome and the final climax -- just the right touch of myth and wonder.
You leave the theater (or in this case your living room) with anticipation about the next
adventure in this saga. While you have seen BATMAN before, it hasn't been THIS BATMAN.
Let's not miss the toys! How about the Batmobile!!!! Can't you see that tooling down the
highway??? I wonder how many miles to a gallon it gets???
Timing for this DVD release was brilliant. For those who did not catch this film when it
first came out, there was time to catch up before going to THE DARK KNIGHT (released on July 18).
For those who went to see THE DARK KNIGHT, this DVD was on the shelve waiting to give the back
story and bring you up to date. I can't wait to see what is in the future for this one.
