Welcome! I am REALLY glad you dropped by. Take your shoes off, get comfortable and stay a while.
The Zocalo Today is an interactive newsletter. If you have suggestions, please
send them along. The Zocalo Today is as much YOUR newsletter as it is
mine! I'm just pulling together things for you! Join our weekly discussion
topic. It is just one way you can interact with other Z readers. Send along
letters, sightings of B5 cast and crew in other projects, convention
reports, photos, etc. Don't miss our back issues. There is a LOT of information
contained there and you'll not want to miss anything.
For those of you who have been looking for the Lurker's Guide -- and getting a "site not found" error, try
http://www.dscga.com/lurk/lurker.html. This is a mirror site that still works.
Amazing Spiderman #35 is now available at your local comic book store! Be sure to pick up a copy. The story is terrific. There is a review
of the issue out at IGN.COM.
Tye Boudony has a couple of new toons ready for your enjoyment! You can bid on them at GlobeList and the money raised will go to
the Gene Roddenberry Memorial Society and the American Red Cross. Details below.
Some great responses to this week's discussion topic about the new series Enterprise. Thanks for
taking the time to share your thoughts. Check out the Discussion Page
and see if you agree with what's already been submitted. If not, send in your own comments to share.
There are a number of efforts underway to raise money for families of victims of the tragedies of September 11. I have created a special
page to list some of those efforts, especially if they are personalities in the genre. Please visit Special
Efforts Page and see if there is something you'd like to participate in there.
As many of you know, Spiderman hangs around NYC quite a bit -- and with the events of September 11, Marvel thought that
one of their books should deal with the current situation. They have asked JMS to write something -- and he has. There's a
longer post from JMS about an upcoming issue of Amazing Spiderman below.
BLOOD DRIVES: If you are able, be sure to roll up your sleeves and give blood -- both now and in a
couple of weeks. The need for blood will be continual. Right now, the tremendous outpouring of volunteers
has filled quotas and storage space! FANTASTIC!!! But those supplies will be utilized and a new supply
will be needed soon. Check out donation drives near you. I'm signed up already.
The e-mail version of The Zocalo Today goes out on Saturdays. If you would like to be included on the mailing list,
just send a blank note to thezocalo-subscribe@yahoogroups.com. If that doesn't work for you, drop me a note at
sgbruckner@aol.com. I can add you manually.
NEWS AROUND THE SCI-FI GENRE
October 5: DAREDEVIL: Ben Affleck's name has been associated with a number of new projects, including Batman -- and Daredevil. Variety
has confirmed that Ben has indeed signed to portray blind lawyer and martial artist Matt Murdock, who becomes the costumed crime-fighting
vigilante known as Daredevil. Production is slated to begin in Vancouver next year with Mark Steven Johnson directing.
WEST WING: Not only did West Wing break records in getting this episode written and filmed in three weeks, but their special
episode, "Isaac and Ishmael," focusing on the White House under security lockdown scored big in the ratings, attracting some 25 million
viewers.
October 4: BUFFY: The move to UPN was a good one for Buffy. They scored its second-largest audience ever Tuesday night. The show
averaged 7.7 million viewers and hit all-time highs in its key young-adult demographics.
MIND MELD: Leonard Nimoy talks about a new project, Mind Meld: Secrets Behind the Voyage of a Lifetime, an 80-minute
one-on-one talk between Nimoy and William Shatner. "This conversation, I think, is a valuable document for people who have known
about us for some time and/or for people who are wondering what Star Trek was all about." Filmed at Nimoy's home, both men talk
about their personal lives, share fond memories of DeForest Kelley and their sometimes rocky reslationship with Gene Roddenberry.
Mind Meld will be released on DVD November 6.
SIN EATER: According to the Hollywood Reporter, Heath Ledger has signed onto the supernatural thriller film Sin Eater.
Ledger will star in the Fox movie as a conflicted priest tracking down a "sin eater," who gives people absolution outside of the church
by eating their sins. Brian Helgeland from Knight's Tale will direct.
October 3: RATINGS: Top 10 Syndicated TV Shows: 3rd Rock 2.9; Xena 2.4; Andromeda 2.3; The X-Files 2.3; Earth: Final Conflict 1.9;
The Invisible Man 1.7; John Edward 1.7; Stargate SG-1 1.7; Profiler 1.6, and Pretender 1.4.
WATCHMEN: Comics Continuium has confirmed that X-Men screenwriter David Hayter will adapt Watchmen for the movies, but
won't direct it. "I am interested in writing it (Watchmen), as it is one of the most brilliant pieces I have ever read." Hayter said Watchmen is
not set up at a studio right now. "I am talking to the people that own the rights," he said. Hayter has been working this summer on a script
for X-Men 2, which will be directed by Bryan Singer. "X2 is going well, going to be a much bigger movie," he said.
ENTERPRISE: Mike Vejar will be directing an upcoming episode of "Enterprise". In this October episode entitled "Unexpected"
Trip has a friendly encounter with one of the ship's female engineers -- with unexpected results. For spoiler information, visit
www.cinescape.com.
WEST WING: A special episode dealing with the September 11 tragedy will air tonight, pre-empting the season premiere. "Isaac and
Ishmael was written by Adam Sorkin in a span of a few days and delivered it on a Thursday. Production began on a fast-track and was completed
to meet the October 3 air date--a virtually unheard-of turnaround time for a TV drama.
E!Online has more on the episode.
CSI: CSI is one of my favorite programs. William Petersen recently was interviewed by
ET Online. Read more about the show and what it's like to work on a show where DNA can solve a crime!
October 2 FARSCAPE: SCIFI announced that it has renewed Farscape for an additional TWO seasons of 22 episodes each. This ensures that
the series will go for the full five-year run. In making the announcement, Bonnie Hammer said, "Farscape is not only the most ambitious
original series on basic cable, we think it's one of the best-written shows on television, period. It's no wonder that it's the top-rated series on
SCI FI for three years running." Congratulations to Farscape and all those involved.
SCIFI reports that Michael Shanks, who plays Dr. Daniel Jackson on the series, will be leaving at the end of the fifth season. No reason was
given, but there was an indication that he might make a few guest appearances during season six.
JEREMIAH: While you are over at MGM, drop in to see what's new with Jeremiah at
http://www.mgm.com/scifi/01sept/jeremiah.html. There is more information about the cast involved with the series -- and a terrific photo of
Alex Zahara from "Legend of the Rangers".
ENTERPRISE: Fans of the new series don't particularly care for the opening theme music. Over 1,000 people have already signed a
petition to have the music replace with a more traditional theme. Want to join in? Visit
http://www.petitiononline.com/STETheme/petition.html to sign a petition.
October 1: RATINGS: Top 10 SF Channel Shows: Alien Cargo 1.5; Fortress 2 1.4; The Outer Limits 1.3; The Chronicle 1.2; Star Trek 'Thon 1.2;
First Wave 1.0; Invisible Man 1.0; John Edward 1.0; Idle Hands 1.0, and Stranded 1.0.
BATMAN: YEAR ONE: Over at ComiXtreme.com there is some
speculation about who would portray Batman. The latest name tossed out is Christian Bale from American Psycho and Shaft. For B5 fans,
an even more exciting speculation is for the character of Lt. James Gorden. Bruce Boxleitner would indeed be perfect!
HARRY POTTER: Hugh Grant really wanted to be Professor Gilderoy Lockhart, wizardry expert, in Harry Potter: The Chamber Of
Secrets. He even went so far as to do make-up tests and dye his hair blonde! Howver, scheduling could not be worked out.
MUTANT X: Premieres continue this week. On Saturday/Sunday, Mutant X makes it's appearance. John Shea, who many of you
will remember from Lois & Clark, leads a group of genetically altered humans on the run from the government agency that created them.
ENTERPRISE: According to the Hollywood Reporter, the two-hour premiere of Enterprise averaged 12.5 million viewers and a 6.3 rating/16 share
among adults 18-49. The show lifted the network to No. 1 from 8-10 p.m. Wednesday in viewers and to No. 1 for the night in adults 18-49 and
other key demographics, according to data from Nielsen Media Research.
September 30: BUFFY: Fox began showing Buffy The Vampire Slayer yesterday. Episode #1 was quite good and it was
good to look back at the genesis of the show and see how it has grown!
BASIC: John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson were terrific together in Pulp Fiction. They will be
getting together again on the big screen for Phonenix Pictures/Intermedia's military thriller called
BASIC. Directed by John McTiernan, the film will tell the James Vanderbilt scripted story of a DEA
agent investigating the disappearance of a respected Army Ranger drill instructor and several cadets
under him. Production is scheduled for late November.
ANDROMEDA: Dark Horizons reports that Andromeda will begin coming out on DVD in Germany around
Christmas. Speaking of the series, the second season begins October 1. For news about upcoming guest
stars, wallpaper for your PC and more, drop over to
http://www.andromedatv.com.
EARTH: FINAL CONFLICT: Someone asked a question about the series so I went looking this morning
for some information. The new series begins on October 6. The cliff-hanger created by the end of season 4
sounds like a good one and it will be interesting to see how it is resolved. Check out
http://earth.finalconflict.com/news.html for videos and other news related to the series.
BABYLON 5 ON DVD
Ranger Alan reports that:
Diamond Comic Distributors is listing the first DVD from the B5 series in the October catalog. If there are more to be released, then
DCD will be carrying them also. You can still get the videos that were released about 2 years ago (new) if anybody is interested.
THIS WEEK'S DISCUSSION TOPIC:
Let's talk ENTERPRISE for a bit. What did you think about the premiere episode? Did you like it? Think the series has potential? Do you
enjoy Scott Bakula as captain? Do you particularly like/dislike anyone on the crew?
Send in your comments to TheZocalo@aol.com or B5web@aol.com. I'll post them on the Discussion Topic page
for everyone to share.

KEEPING UP WITH CAST AND CREW
MELISSA GILBERT: Melissa continues with her campaign to become the next President of SAG. Her campaign mantra has become
"Restore Respect"; her main opponent, actress Valery Harper, who has been endorsed by incumbent President William Daniels.
BRUCE MC GILL: According to the Hollywood Reporter, Bruce McGill has joined Cliff DeYoung, Tom Skerritt, Frederic F. Forrest,
Felicity Huffman, James Frain, Christopher Eigeman, John Aylward and Patricia Kalember for the HBO original movie about President
Johnson's administration, "Path to War." Alec Baldwin, Donald Sutherland and Michael Gambon headline the movie. McGill (HBO's "61*")
will portray Undersecretary of State George Ball -- a powerful voice inside the Kennedy and Johnson administrations against America's
deepening entanglement in Vietnam.
DEAN MARSHALL: Dean Marshall, who plays Malcolm Bridges in the upcoming Legend of the Rangers, will be performing in Riff
Raff, a play by The Matrix's Laurence Fishburne. Dean will be in the production at Havana Theatre in Vancouver, Canada, from September
19 to October 6 2001.
GARY COLE: The Brady Bunch will be back in another movie, with Gary Cole and Shelley Long returning to their respective roles
as Mike and Carol Brady. The new Fox TV film is tentatively titled, "The Brady Bunch in the White House," and centers around Mike and
Carol Brady ending up in the White House as President and Vice-President...
CLAUDIA CHRISTIAN: Ranger Margaret reports that an episode of Family Law featuring Claudia Christian, entitled, "Are You
My Father?" will air at 11am on October 5 on Channel 5 in the UK.
DYLAN NEAL: Dylan, Captain David Martel in the new "Legend of the Rangers" telemovie is keeping busy while
SCIFI waits to see how the movie will do in January. He has returned to "Dawson's Creek" and has won a recurring role in the
new series "Thieves" with John Stamos. Dylan mentioned in a recent note that he was going to Shanghai soon to film a movie,
so we should be seeing him soon in other projects.
ALEX ZAHARA: Ranger Dennis in Vancouver reports that Alex Zahara (Dulann from the new Legend of the Rangers)
has won a recurring role in JMS' new "Jeremiah" series. He will portray "Ezekiel" -- a character as far removed from Dulann
as possible, according to Alex.
PAT TALMAN AND MIRA FURLAN Both Pat & Mira have appeared in upcoming Sheena episodes. In addition, Mira's
husband Goran Gajic has directed two episodes. Mira's episode "Treasure of Sienna Mende" will air the week of November 10;
Pat's episode "The Darkness" will air the week of November 17. Goran's episodes "Sienna Mende" and "Return of the Native"
will air the week of January 26.
BABYLON 5/CRUSADE CHRONOLOGY
A number of you have written to ask about having an index of the chronology published thusfar. Terry has given
permission for this so I'm working on it. You can now find the index to the timeline published thusfar at
B5 Chronology Index .
Terry Jones created a FANTASTIC Babylon 5/Crusade Chronology that was published in the Official Babylon 5 magazine.
He has not stopped with the end of the series though. He has included items from the latest novels as well as things
from the Crusade series. Here's a note from Terry to tell you all about it.
To look at the timeline in a different way, I have been working with Terry Jones on personal chronologies for the
Babylon 5 universe. At The Galactic Gateway you will fine Parts 1-4
of the chronology for John Sheridan along with Part 1 for KOSH. Others will follow. I hope you will visit GG and give
the chronologies a look.
Cult Times Special #19: New series premieres are the focus of the latest issue! Enterprise and Smallville will be getting a fair amount
of exposure, as will Buffy and Angel. However, this issue also features an interview with Alex Zahara (Dulann) from the new telemovie
LEGEND OF THE RANGERS.
TV Zone #143: Buffy died on the final episode of last season. I'm sure that's not the last we'll see of her -- at least not with a new season
approaching on UPN! In this issue you'll find interviews with Alyson Harrigan (Willow) and Michaelle Tracktenberg. John Savage
talks about Dark Angel and Lexa Doig looks ahead as Andromeda begins it's second season. LEGEND OF THE RANGERS is also featured
in an article that takes a peek at the upcoming telemovie..
STARBURST #278: Starburst LOVES Farscape! At least that's what's on the cover. Also inside, you'll find articles and interviews for
Lord of the Rings, Angel, Buffyand more.
Expose #60: Smallville hopes to break new ground in the Superman saga, including showing Clark Kent as both boy of steel and teenager.
Bill Sadler provides some insight into Roswell -- talking about the past two seasons and looking ahead to #3. Other features: X-Files, Special
Unit 2; Invisible Man and Witchblade!

Ranger Regis sends along this report about Crusade in France:
I just want to let the french babylonians know that there is a current
rerun of Crusade in France on Canal+ (and its "sisters channels Canal+
Jaune, Canal+ Vert and Canal+ Bleu). There is no multilanguage diffusion
neither on satellite or cable so there's only the french dubbed version.

B5 ROLE PLAYING
Ranger Jamie has sent along the notice about their role-playing site. It has been around for quite a
while, but they are always looking for new players:
The ISA Phoenix is a email based, RPG sim based in the Babylon 5 universe.
The players portray a group of Rangers on a prototype ship. We are very
interested in having new players join us! For more information, please visit
the Phoenix website at www.sailbourne.com/phoenix/ or email Jamie Lawson at
Sailbourne@aol.com.
BABYLON 5 NOVELS
The third book of the Technomage trilogy is scheduled for released on November 27, 2001. You may order it now at amazon.com.
Book #7 "Shadow Within" by Jeanne Cavelos has been very hard to find over the past year. However, the author has a few copies she will let
fans purchase. If you are interested, let me know and I'll get details.
DelRey has a few Babylon 5 projects in the works. DelRey's Steve Staffel is trying to acquire the rights to the Babylon 5 novels published by Dell.
His plan is to begin with the two favorites--by Jeanne Cavelos and Kathryn Drennan--and see what kind of response they get from the Babylon
5 fans. In addition, DelRey is considering publishing the short story collection, if they can pick up the license.
BABYLON 5/CRUSADE PHOTOSHOP NEW PHOTOS
You do NOT have to pay the prices asked for over at e-bay! Here are photos of B5 and Crusade cast members at
fantastic prices. Check out Photo Shop. Ordering is easy -- and you can't
beat the prices! Just let me know which photos you want and I'll check to make sure they are still in stock.
COMIC BOOKS
SPIDERMAN NEWS
Amazing Spiderman is on shelves now. It's a great issue and according to IGN.COM, it's one that you'll want to buy.
The ending is terrific -- making you want to lay your hands on #36 very quickly.
Here's a portion of a quote from JMS regarding upcoming Spiderman issues:
Date: 22 Sep 2001 09:17:32 GMT
Ever since the events surrounding the WTC, I have said little because,
as noted in response to another note, I simply didn't have the words and
didn't know where to look for them. And consequently declined
invitations to make a statement, on the further grounds that I'm not
qualified.
Here's where life just nails you.
I got an email from Marvel, who felt that in at least one of their books
they needed to really address the issue of what happened at the WTC.
Their feeling was that the one character best suited to this was
Spider-Man because after all, he's a native New Yorker.
So they asked me to write it. Unsure if I had the wherewithal necessary
to pull it off without embarrassing myself or trivializing the situation
through any inadequacies on my part, I asked for 24 hours to think it
over. Figured I'd probably pass, since I just didn't know how I could
handle it in a comic book format.
Somewhere along the way that night, I found the words...and 24 hours
after my email, I sent in the script
.
I think it says what needs to be said.

TOP COW: For those of us anticipating the next Midnight Nation and Rising Stars issue from JMS, it looks like we'll have a while to
wait! I picked up this note today:
In a press release, Top Cow Productions announced it has made some adjustments to its editorial schedule in the interest of “its continuing
mission to publish the absolute highest quality level in comics while maintaining scheduled ship dates.”
Top Cow announced Fathom #13 and #14 and Tomb Raider: Greatest Treasure of All are all being cancelled pending resolicitation once these
issues are complete. Midnight Nation #9 and Rising Stars #17 are both being resolicited for December 2001.
“Ultimately our goal is very simple, we want to publish the best written, best drawn comics in the industry and put them out in the month
we solicit them in,” said Top Cow President Matt Hawkins. “The changes we’re making in the editorial schedule are being made to help ensure
both aspects of this goal. There are a couple other scheduling changes we’ll be making, but we’ll announce those once we have them confirmed.”
BUFFY - HAUNTED #1: A new Buffy comic is ready to hit the stands. Here's the blurb from Diamond Previews:
It seems that the ghost of one of Buffy’s recently deceased enemies has a bone to pick with her. But
how can she kill something that’s already dead?
**If you are having trouble finding the comic issues, drop me a line. My comic guy seems to be a HUGE JMS fan and
has ordered more Marvel comics than anyone in the area!
NEW BABYLON 5 TOONS
John Cook has a new cartoon contest going. Try your hand at a punch line.

BABYLON 5 REFERENCE PAGES
The Official Babylon 5 Magazine is indexed here as well. With the closure of the magazine in May, you'll want
to see which magazines you have -- and which ones you will want to collect. The index may help you make a decision
on which ones to choose. The Fan Club has many of the issues at thestation.com ,
making it very easy to complete your collection.
Universe Today -- the Babylon 5 Fan Club quarterly can also be found here. The index gives you a
rundown of what articles were presented, what interviews published.
If you have magazines that have featured Babylon 5 or Crusade that are not listed, send along their issue
number and a note to indicate what the article was about. It would be nice to have a fairly comprehensive
listing of Babylon 5 publications here.
I have added a listing of all the Babylon 5 novels and now the B5 comic books to the reference page. If there
are other items that you feel should be included, let me know.

CALLING ALL ARTISTS
The Art Gallery at The Zocalo Today is open. There
are SO MANY talented people in our Babylon 5 community. We have enjoyed works by Todd Brugman and Tye Bourdony
on our toons page, but there are a host of others who enjoy drawing, painting, sketching their favorite characters.
Here are a few works that have been received. I have some others that will be added soon.
If you would like to share your work with us at The Zocalo Today, please send along a digital photo of your
work and I'll begin putting the gallery together. If you do not have your work in digital format, drop me
a note and we'll see what we can work out.
CALLING ALL CLUBS
Amanda, a member of the club 'Friends of Science Fiction' in Sydney, Australia, dropped a note to say that they will
host an event with Marjean Holden on September 9. More information can be found on the convention
calendar. If you are in beautiful Sydney, you may want to check out the Club. It meets at: Lidcombe Catholic Club;
John St; Lidcombe. If you have questions, drop Amanda a note at Amanda_Beachcroft@msn.com.au.
There are a number of fabulous Babylon 5/Crusade Clubs around the world. I'd like to begin listing them here
on The Zocalo Today. Eric dropped me a note the other day providing information about a Club in France. I know
there are other clubs in Brazil, Germany, Russia -- and who knows how many here in the US. Let's get a
listing together. Perhaps we can share resources, even get together as we travel around. Drop the information
about your Club to me at sgbruckner@aol.com or bruckner@isnnews.net. That information will be added to the
new B5 Fan Club Listing.
BABYLON 5 FAN CLUB
Sad news. I don't know what the fate of the B5 Fan Club will be. Netter Digital filed for bankruptcy
in July and all their worldly posessions were auctioned off on December 7.
Thestation.com is back on-line, however the Emporium has been closed.

MAIL FOR CAST AND CREW
Here's a recent note from JMS on the subject:
Just an FYI to those who've been using the Ventura Blvd. mail drop for fan mail
to actors....
As mentioned before, we're phasing out the forwarding of fan mail because we a)
don't have the resources, complicated by b) the actors have scattered to the
four winds, and it makes it very difficult to get everything to everybody in a
timely fashion.
So, having provided prior notice...fan mail to actors coming to the Ventura
Blvd. mail drop will be sent back. Mail to actors should be sent via their
official fan clubs. I will still be taking mail there, since it's my mailbox,
but that's it.
Just so's y'all know and save a few bucks on postage and returns.
JMS' mail can be sent to:
14431 Ventura Boulevard, PMB 260
Sherman Oaks, CA 91423
Warner Bros. Address:
Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution
4000 Warner Blvd.
Burbank, CA 91522
