LOST PREMIERE DATE SET
ABC is scheduling a two-hour premiere for the fifth season debut of LOST on
Wednesday, Jan. 21. The premiere will be preceded by a one-hour clip show to bring
everyone up to date (so three hours of "Lost" total). That means LOST is
returning to its Wednesday-at-9 p.m. time period. The new premiere date is also
slightly earlier than last season. ABC has lined up 17 episodes for 2009, which
is one hour more than the show's now-standard 16-episode tally. The network added
an extra hour to compensate for last year, which was cut short due to the strike.
Also, yesterday the Hollywood Reporter reported that Reiko Aylesworth is in negotiations
for a major recurring role on the show.
THE LINE
The Hollywood Reporter writes that Dylan McDermott (The Practice) has been tapped
as the lead in THE LINE, Jerry Bruckheimer's drama pilot for TNT. The project, from
Warner Horizon and Jerry Bruckheimer TV, is a character-based police drama that revolves
around a squad of undercover LAPD officers as they walk the line between doing their
job and being seduced by easy money. McDermott will play Lt. Andre Carter, a veteran
officer who created and is running the secret unit, trying to strike a balance in his
personal and professional relationships with his underlings. He joins the recently cast
Logan Marshall-Green, Omari Hardwick and Nicki Aycox on "Line," written by Doug Jung and
directed by Danny Cannon. The pilot is executive produced by Bruckheimer, Cannon, Jung
and Jonathan Littman. McDermott, who won a Golden Globe for his role as Bobby Donnell
on ABC's "The Practice," is filming the feature "Burning Palms," writer-director Christopher
Landon's satire of Angeleno stereotypes.
CONAN GETS A DIRECTOR
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Brett Ratner is in final negotiations to direct
CONAN, which is aiming for a release in early 2010. Ratner liked the Conan script by
Joshua Oppenheimer and Thomas Dean Donnelly, who looked to Robert E. Howard's original
pulp stories of the 1930s to create their take on the character. The writers are doing
a quick polish to incorporate some of Ratner's ideas. Joe Gatta and Avi Lerner of
Millennium Films are producing, along with Paradox Entertainment president and CEO
Fredrik Malmberg. Millennium and Lionsgate are eyeing a potential franchise and
envision a very R-rated approach in the $85 million budget range. Preproduction is
under way for a shoot at Nu Image's Nu Boyana Studio in Bulgaria.
"The story opens on the battlefield where Conan is born and tells the origin story
that sets the stage for what will be the first of multiple films," Lerner said.
THE KILLER INSIDE ME
Casey Affleck and Jessica Alba are teaming with director Michael Winterbottom for
THE KILLER INSIDE ME, an adaptation of a novel from noir author Jim Thompson, says
The Hollywood Reporter. The story follows a West Texas sheriff (Affleck) and his
downward spiral from a boring small-town cop into a ruthless, sociopathic murderer.
Alba plays a prostitute. The novel was made into a 1976 film starring Stacy Keach.
MuseFilm's Chris Hanley, Cyclone Prods.' Robert Weinbach, Revolution Films' Andrew
Eaton and Bradford Schlei are producing the latest adaptation, which was written by
Weinbach and John Curran. A mid-January start date is being eyed.

JMS UPDATE
Just a small comment in the B5 moderated newsgroup on Nov. 6 related to JMS
doing a re-write of FORBIDDEN PLANET. One site reported that FORBIDDEN PLANET
was going to be a remake and more of a continuation. JMS' response is below:
That report is totally incorrect. It's not going to be retro, and
it's not going to be a continuation. When Altair 4 blows up, it blows
up. I have, however, found a way to honro the original movie without
in any way besmirching it in order to do this iteration. Once folks
find out what we're actually going to do, I think they'll be most
pleased. Forbidden Planet remains one of my favorite films of all
time, and I wouldn't even think about doing this project if I didn't
think there was a way to do it that would not in any way diminish the
original...which is why this is the the first development in years to
actually get to the script stage. Everybody involved is very excited
by the approach.
BABYLON 5 PODCAST - #136
Welcome to Show #136!
No Jeffrey this week, he’s working hard on “The Amazing Race”, but not to worry…
for some reason, the Vorlon puns still filter their way into the show.

of the Babylon 5 universe and how it fits in the history of the world

I, for one, am very happy with the new season of TV shows. There are a few programs
I really like -- Fringe, Sanctuary. There are a few I want to watch yet -- The Mentalist,
Eleventh Hour and it was a long wait, but HEROES is back and moving at break-neck speed
again. What programs do you enjoy watching? Do you have any favorites? Do any of them
remind you of Babylon 5? Sanctuary brought back some good old memories as I watched the
premiere episode on Friday night. The talk of sentient beings, the moral questions about
what is right and wrong. I'll have to tune in to see if it continues to hold my interest.
So many programs start off well, but can't sustain the quality over the length of
production.
Send in your thoughts and comments to

far. Add yours! If you see an old topic you want to respond to, go right ahead.
We enjoy hearing from you.

PRIMEVAL - THE COMPLETE SERIES 1 AND 2
Release Date: November 4, 2008
Synopsis:
When evolutionary zoologist Nick Cutter (Douglas Henshall) discovers prehistoric
creatures alive and well in the present-day, the natural world is turned on its
head, and humanity faces a threat to its very existence. Unexplained anomalies are
ripping holes in the fabric of time, allowing creatures from the very earliest stages
of Earth's development to roam the modern world.
Whether it's a prehistoric predator Gorgonopsid rampaging through a quiet suburban
neighborhood or a swarm of super-sized spiders in the subway, Cutter and his team
find themselves up against some seriously beastly opponents. These puzzling creatures
all have the same simple fact in common - they don't belong here.
While Cutter and his team struggle to keep the looming disaster under wraps, Cutter
also has to deal the fact that his wife, Helen, a fellow scientist who disappeared
eight years ago, is not dead as he believed. In fact, she's been traveling through
time. However, now she's back, and she holds the key to the riddle of the anomalies.
But is it something she's willing to share? If not, what does she really want? Why
did she come back?
Cutter, his research assistant Stephen Hart, zoologist Abby Maitland, and student
paleontologist Connor Temple race to understand what's happening, while government
bureaucrats James Lester and Claudia Brown insist they have to keep the danger secret
from the public. As the past threatens to invade the present and destroy the future,
Cutter's crew faces a life-and-death race against time.
Primeval was created by Adrian Hodges (screenwriter of the film Tom & Viv) and Tim
Haines (writer/director of Walking with Dinosaurs).
REVIEW
I have caught this show off and on as it airs on BBC America. I like it very much.
The characters are interesting - the plot is unusual. I was SO happy to get the DVD
because it gave me a chance to see the show from the beginning - which helps provide
a little more of the back story - but it isn't necessary to understand why Dr. Cutter
and his team are exploring anomalies in space and time. The creatures they encounter
are awesome - and you at times wonder, how they did that! The only problem I've had
so far is having to listen pretty hard to the English accent! This DVD set is
definitely worth watching.
Annie Leibovitz: Life Through a Lens

REVIEW
For those of you who love photography -- or just looking at good pictures -- you are going
to LOVE this DVD. Annie Leibovitz is just amazing. This portrait of her work shows just
how terrific she is and what a life she has led looking through the lens of a camera. Seeing
photographs of John Lennon and Yoko Ono just before he was killed is just amazing. Being
able to follow her career and her growth as a photographer and person is just as amazing.

young...

Written by: Chris Chibnall
With fearsome new aliens, compelling new storylines, and amazing guest stars the second
season of Torchwood takes the close-knit team through dare-devil action, temptation,
heartache, and a life changing event for one of them.
REVIEW
I liked Season Two much better than Season One. The episodes were more tightly written
and easier to follow. In Season One, we were introduced to the characters and the villans
and places. In Season Two, now that we know the characters, each episode could explore the
characters more and their interactions with each other. If you are a fan of DOCTOR WHO,
this spin-off series is sure to delight you. In addition, Freema Agyeman reprises her role
of Martha Jones in a 3-story arc. She was terrific in DOCTOR WHO -- she's wonderful in
TORCHWOOD.

PUSHING DAISIES is an unusual romantic comedy that was shortened to only nine episodes
in the first season because of the writer's strike. Everyone who enjoys the show hopes
season two will bring the regular 22 episodes for everyone to enjoy.
The show has perfect casting, directing, production and writing. PUSHING DAISIES is
fresh, original, heart breaking and funny.
Smallville Season 7
Release date: September 9, 2008
Official website: http://www.smallvilledvd.com
Synopsis:
When Clark's cousin Kara (Supergirl) arrives on the scene, Clark advises her to keep
a low profile and master her powers, but Kara has other ideas and becomes the focus
of Lex Luthor's powerlust. Does Lana Lang prefer Bizarro to the real deal? Lois Lane
makes a career leap and Chloe Sullivan finds that balancing a meteor power with a
personal life isn't easy. New characters and complications abound, along with new
secrets and lore, new thrills and special effects. Power up to Season 7!
REVIEW
With two less episodes due to the writer's strike, this season seemed less focused than
the others. Not to say it was not good, but the writers seemed to be coming up with
new story lines and ways to have some of the principal actors exist at the end of the
season. Michael Rosenbaum has consistently been fantastic as Lex Luthor. He will be
sorely missed in season eight, but the void will be filled by new characters. Tom Welling
as Clark Kent has grown considerably as an actor. Having come to the role as a model, he
has shown glimpses of real acting talent and I hope he continues to stretch himself during
the coming season.
This season brought back James Marsters as Brainiac and he's as good as ever. He has made
the character his own and the episodes featuring him are favorites.
If you had to pick some favorite episodes from season 7, there are many. "Descent" may
be the best as Lex and his father, Lionel, face off with tragic results. The final scene
with Lex and Clark standing by Lionel's coffin is a powerful moment not to be missed by
any SMALLVILLE fan.

The New World - Extended Cut
