Wednesday, November 26: STAR WARS: EPISODE III: According to the official web site, Matthew Woodring Stover has been chosen to write the novelization of the upcoming prequel movie STAR WARS: EPISODE III. Del Rey Books (a division of Ballantine Books) is expected to release the hardcover novelization in time for the film's theatrical debut in the summer of 2005.
STAR FOR SCOTTY: Did you know that James Doohan, Scotty from the original STAR TREK, is the only original cast member without a star on the Walk of Fame? Chris Doohan, James' son, is attempting to do something about it. He is launching a campaign to raise the funds needed to place a new star on the Walk of Fame for his father. "Many years ago my father said that he thought it was very unusual that they make the honoree pay $15,000 for the honor of receiving a Star on the Walk of Fame. In the past, many celebrities received their Stars through donations from fans, family or movie studios. I don't see Paramount flipping the bill." If you would like to help Chris Doohan in this effort, go to www.stottystar.com. Fans can donate via PayPal or write a check. Doohan promises that any additional monies collected over the cost of the Star will be donated to the Motion Picture Hospital in Calabassas, CA. Additionally, anyone who donates over $500 will be invited to come to the ceremony as a personal guest of Mr. Doohan.
TRU CALLING: According to the Hollywood Reporter, Fox Broadcasting Co. has picked up seven additional episodes of its freshman drama TRU CALLING, starring Eliza Dushku.
HOLIDAY AT THE MOVIES: There are a number of movies opening this weekend. You may want to read the reviews BEFORE you head out to see one of them. Go to http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/442/442223p1.html for a few reviews. More will follow later today. New movies include:
BAD SANTA, THE MISSING, TIMELINE, THE HAUNTED MANSION, THE COOLER.
THE PACIFIER: Vin Diesel is taking a break from action flicks. According today's Variety, Diesel is teaming up with Walt Disney Pictures and Spyglass Entertainment on THE PACIFIER. The film will follow an undercover agent who fails to protect an important government scientist and learns that the man's family is in danger. In an effort to redeem himself, he agrees to take care of the man's children only to discover that child care is his toughest mission yet. The story was penned by Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garent, who have collaborated on the TV series Reno 911!, and the North American remake of Luc Besson's Taxi.
INTO THE BLUE: Shooting will begin in mid-January for INTO THE BLUE, a project for MGM and Mandalay Pictures. Josh Brolin has joined Paul Walker, Jessica Alba (DARK ANGEL) and Ashley Scott in the film for director John Stockwell. The project is an underwater action-adventure about a group of scuba-diving best friends who discover the sunken wreckage of a plane off the Florida coast that contains illegal cargo. The divers then find themselves involved with a dangerous drug lord. Brolin will play the boss of Alba's character.
AMERICAN GOTHIC: Over at Moviehole, there's a report about the possible return of AMERICAN GOTHIC. Fathom Pictures has been trying continuously to get an "American Gothic" movie off the ground. The series starred Gary Cole as a small-town Sheriff, who might also be the Devil. "Little Magic Films, a company known more for their distribution efforts in Japan, are going to be the financial partners with Fathom on 'American Gothic', assuming we can get the final approvals from Universal. The big hold-up right now is the pending sale of Universal to NBC. They are anticipating it to be done with by Christmas, but others think it will be longer. Fathom's plans are to do a new film version of the Sam Raimi exec. produced series, with much of the same cast. Raimi is in talks to Direct and Produce, with Brenda Bakke, Lucas Black and Jake Weber attached to star.
BAD NEWS: I really hate reporting bad news, but there seems to have been a lot of it in the last week. The death of 27-year-old actor Jonathan Brandis has been officially ruled a suicide. According to a coroner's report, the SeaQuest DSV star hung himself with a nylon rope in the hallway of his Los Angeles apartment complex on Nov. 11. He was found unconscious that night and rushed to a hospital, where he died the next day.
WITCHBLADE star Yancy Butler was ordered Monday to enter alcohol rehab following her weekend arrest for disorderly intoxication. She's due in court on Dec. 18.

THUNDERBIRDS: There are a lot of familiar names involved with the upcoming THUNDERBIRDS movie. Set for release in theaters next summer, a trailer is out at Working Title Films, the production company making the picture. The trailer shows that director Jonathan Frakes has done a pretty decent job at making the live-action Tracy family and their space age vehicles look remarkably faithful to their marionette counterparts.
BATMAN: Oscar-winning actor Michael Caine has agreed to play the role of Bruce Wayne's trusted butler Alfred in Warner Bros.' new BATMAN movie. The film, to be helmed by Christopher Nolan and being penned by David Goyer, is expected to start shooting next year for a 2005 release. Christian Bale has been cast in the title role.
Monday, November 24: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: SCIFI.COM continues it's count down toward the premiere of it's original miniseries BATTLESTAR GALACTICA on December 8. The SCIFI website features a great deal of information about the series, including a background feature on executive producer Ronald D. Moore and a photo of the new Starbuck (Katee Sackhoff) having coffee with the original Starbuck (Dirk Benedict) at Starbucks. The miniseries be making a bit of cable network history as it premieres with Spanish captioning -- the first time this has been added to any TV project.
STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE: UPN was happy to announce that the Nov. 19 episode of STAR TREK ENTERPRISE delivered its largest audience in nine months, with 4.6 million viewers.
WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: Universal's DR. SEUSS' THE CAT IN THE HAT captured the number one spot in this weekend's box office, earning an estimated $40 million in its first three days of release. What is surprising is that the Mike Myers-led picture didn't earn more dollars on its opening weekend as DR. SEUSS' HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS did three years ago (that picture took in $15 M more than CAT on its opening weekend.) Still, CAT's earnings were more than double what GOTHIKA captured from audiences. Warner Bros. shouldn't be too disappointed though, the film pulled in a healthy $19 M for the opening weekend. ELF continues to earn more money for New Line Cinema, taking in another $19 M this weekend and bringing its total to just a few million shy of the coveted $100 M mark. MASTER AND COMMANDER: THE FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD had a strong second weekend, sailing high on good reviews no doubt while LOVE ACTUALLY climbed an extra spot on the chart to number five. THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS continues a downward spiral, dropping more than 50% from last weekend's ticket sales.
With the holiday season officially comensing next weekend, theater goers will have a number of new films to choose from including THE HAUNTED MANSION, THE MISSING, BAD SANTA and TIMELINE.
Here are the estimated box office receipts of the top ten films:
1. DR. SEUSS' THE CAT IN THE HAT $40,100,000 $40,100,000
2. GOTHIKA $19,620,000 $19,620,000
3. ELF $19,125,000 $95,142,000
4. MASTER AND COMMANDER: THE FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD $15,200,000 $47,265,000
5. LOVE ACTUALLY $9,100,000 $30,800,000
6. THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS $6,740,000 $125,091,000
7. BROTHER BEAR $5,500,000 $70,400,000
8. LOONEY TUNES: BACK IN ACTION $4,105,000 $14,781,000
9. SCARY MOVIE 3 $3,284,000 $106,618,000
10. RADIO $2,600,000 $47,061,000
LORD OF THE RINGS: Howard Shore, LORD OF THE RINGS composer, will conduct the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra in a special night of music celebrating the opening festivities for the New Zealand premiere of the final picture in director Peter Jackson's epic fantasy trilogy, THE RETURN OF THE KING. The event, titled "The Lord of the Rings Symphony: Six Movements for Orchestra and Chorus", will take place this coming Saturday, November 29 in Wellington, New Zealand at the Michael Fowler Centre. In the coming new year Howard has plans to take the symphony on the road and play in cities in the United States, Europe and Australia. Tour dates haven't been announced just yet.
Sunday, November 23: PETER PAN: Set to open in theaters on December 25, a new site has been opened for the
PETER PAN movie. There is quite a bit to offer at
the site -- including a trailer, a contest to win books and even a place to purchase tickets.
DARK ANGEL:
At a recent press conference promoting her latest film (HONEY -- in theaters December 5)
Jessica Alba talked about her surprise when DARK ANGEL was cancelled. "Yea, we were picked
up on a Friday and on Monday we were cancelled." Her explanation, "Politics." Would she ever
go back to the character Max one day? "Jim talked to me about doing a movie... I don't know.
I think it's done. It was so hard trying to keep up the integrity of the story and the
character with the studio and the network. I don't know. I don't think so. I want to work
with Jim again but I think Max is done."
DISCUSSION TOPIC: I've already gotten a couple of very good responses to the latest
discussion topics regarding new books out there. If you have read something you really enjoyed,
why not share that with other readers. Drop me a note and I'll post your comments. Thanks to
Ranger Don and Captain Average for getting the ball rolling.

SEAQUEST DSV: Jonathan Brandis, Lucas Wolenczeck from SeaQuest DSV, died Nov. 12 at the age of 27. The Los Angeles County Coroner's office confirmed to the site that Brandis died and that his death was reported as a possible suicide. Final determination of a cause of death will depend on the results of an autopsy and other tests. Besides Sequest DSV, Brandis appeared in THE NEVERENDING STORY II: THE NEXT CHAPTER and Stephen King's IT.
TWO TOWERS DVD: Reuters reports that the extended-version DVD of THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS sold 750,000 to 1 million units during its first 24 hours in release on Nov. 18. But the DVD did not set a record, as was expected by several national video buyers. The Two Towers Special Extended Edition carries a suggested retail price of about $40, but most national retail chains are selling the set for about $30. Besides containing an additional 43 minutes from the original feature, two of the special edition's four discs sport all-new extras.
JEREMIAH: With the fate of JEREMIAH up in the air, news comes from the Hollywood Reporter that Malcolm-Jamal Warner is taking a part opposite Jason Alexander in a CBS pilot. Warner will play the co-host of a sports talk show, based on the life of Washington Post sports columnist Tony Kornheiser. Alexander will play Kornheiser, who also co-hosts ESPN's "Pardon the Interruption" with fellow Post writer Michael Wilbon. Warner will be Wilbon's fictional counterpart. The project was originally developed for this season but didn't make it past the pilot stage because of casting issues. It got new life when Alexander signed on. Lindy De Koven, who pitched the concept to producer Regency TV, is executive producing the pilot with writer Jeff Martin ("Maybe It's Me").
WEEKEND AT THE MOVIES: It looks like another great weekend for going to the movies. This weekend a number of new films hit the box office. Among them are: THE CAT IN THE HAT, GOTHIKA and 21 GRAMS. The Mike Myers' CAT IN THE HAT is almost assured to take the #1 spot but GOTHIKA looks like a wonderful thriller. For reviews of these three flicks, go to http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/441/441714p1.html.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT RATINGS BATTLE: It seems as if Wednesday night is the only night of the week with a LOT of good things to watch! According to the Nielsen Overnight Metered Market ratings, "Enterprise" scored a 4.1 rating/6 share, matching last week's new episode as well. "Smallville," on The WB, scored a 5.9/9, also matching last week's output. "Angel," which follows "Smallville," was up slightly with a 4.2/6, ahead of last week's 4.0/6. "Jake 2.0" was down on UPN with a 2.4/3. Last week, it earned a 2.7/4. For the year, "Enterprise" is still down 7 percent from its season premiere while "Smallville" is down 12 percent. However, it's ratings are now only 30 percent off "Smallville," based on the season premiere comparison of 34 percent.
SLANTED FEDORA CONVENTION WOES: On September 19, 2003, the State of Kansas issued a press release related to Slanted Fedora Entertainment. The statement indicates that Attorney General Phill Kline has filed a suit against the company for alleged violations of the Kansas Consumer Protection Act. The company was previously ordered by the court to shut down their website which promoted their events and to refund moneis to consumers who had filed complaints with the Kansas Attorney General and the Better Business Bureau of Kansas City, MO. SPECIAL HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES
For a number of years, Pat Tallman (Lyta) has been heavily involved with Penny Lane, a family treatment center that cares for the most difficult to manage children with the highest quality care. These kids have been so sexually, emotionally and physically abused, they cannot be placed in regular foster care. Children come from all over California, Nevada and Arizona. This program focuses on kids who are the 104 in residence in the North Hills main facility and 9 satellite houses. Penny Lane also services over 700 young children in foster care.
Pat would like to focus this year on the 104 teens in residence and provide Target gift cards to the 40 young adults in Penny Lane’s revolutionary Transitional Living program.
To learn more about Pat's efforts at Penny Lane, go to the Be A Santa page. Here you will
find a note from Pat and some responses from children who are current at the Penny Lane facility.
At this special time of year, open up your heart and make one of these children feel special.
If readers would like to join together and present Pat with a number of gift certificates, I can coordinate the effort. Just let me know if you are interested -- and what you would like to donate. We can get gift certificates for Target, Tower Records, Borders and Barnes and Noble Books. Let's pull together and show the kids that the Babylon 5 community really does have the holiday spirit.

TRADING CARD HELP
Ranger Tia sent along this note to share with B5 card collectors:
Don't know if you've heard of my card program yet or not, but I thought
the other B5 card collectors might like to try it out. With having almost
all of the B5 trading cards and CCG cards available and no program to keep
track of them withm, I started writing my own. Here's the website for it.
Go half way down and click on the small screen shot for a full size screen
shot. I have the pic of Pat Tallman's card from the Profiles card set
feautured in the shot.
Oh, and I also have a lot of the card lists already saved as files so
people won't need to type in all the card names. Being written by a B5
fan, ALL the card lists have already been made and are downloadable. :)

STARGATE SG-1: P.O.W. #1
by James Anthony & Renato Guedes; cover by Matt Busch
The first issue of the new Stargate series is finally here! The greatest sci-fi show on television comes to comics for the first time in a full-length action-packed series! Reconnaissance has discovered an alien invasion force with plans of conquest for planet Earth. Caught in a firefight, the escaping team from Stargate Command unknowingly allows a mysterious serpent-headed Goa'uld Lord access into the SGC. The invaders lay waste to the debarkation chamber, while locking a naquadah-laced bomb onto the Stargate. In the resulting attack, Colonel Jack O'Neill finds himself on a distant world, face to face with a thousand Goa'uld warriors. With the SGC under lockdown and O'Neill already a prisoner of war, the SG1 team must find a way to remove a doomsday bomb from the gate and rescue him from a Goa'uld fortress. Join the SG1 team for a full force adventure as they fight for survival against a race bent on subjecting the universe to their rule as the gods of legend. Jack O'Neill, Daniel Jackson, Samantha Carter, and Teal'c begin a new chapter of Stargate adventures in the pages of Stargate SG1: P.O.W.! Regular cover by Matt Busch; wraparound cover by Renato Guedes. Also available with a photo cover, and as a special "Golden Armor" edition, featuring an all-new solid gold foil wraparound cover with the Serpent Head Goa'ulds illustrated by Jacen Burrows and limited to 2,000 copies.
RISING STARS UPDATE
Since many of us wonder when JMS will be able to finish the RISING STARS comic book, here is an update from JMS:
I've asked Top Cow for three things: for Dream Police back, since they've had
it now for 3 years and have done nothing with it...for confirmation that the
Joe's Comics title belongs to me, and for an apology for deliberately keeping
me out of the loop on my own project at the feature stage and misleading me
about drafts that had come in.
Once those three things have been attended to, I can finish the series.

BABYLON 5/CRUSADE PHOTOSHOP PHOTOS
Peter Woodward has sent along a new photo -- a rather dreadful one -- from his appearance on CHARMED. It will
be added to the collection of photos available from Peter, including additional copies of the Crusade poster in
photo format. Both are autographed by Peter.
You do NOT have to pay the prices asked for over at e-bay! Here are photos of B5 and Crusade cast members at
fantastic prices. Check out Photo Shop. Ordering is easy -- and you can't
beat the prices! Just let me know which photos you want and I'll check to make sure they are still in stock.
BABYLON 5 TOONS
John Cook has a wonderful collection of cartoons -- many are take-offs from Babylon 5. Here's just
one of them.
He has a cartoon caption contest going on as well. Try your hand at a punch line.
With the new Battlestar Galactica coming in December, Tye brings back old memories of Captain Apollo and the old series with
this new satire. Apollo Discovers Feng Shui.Enjoy Tye's other works at www.thelightersideofscifi.com.

It will be incorporated on the new Pen Page Page.
MAIL FOR CAST AND CREW
Here's a recent note from JMS on the subject:
Just an FYI to those who've been using the Ventura Blvd. mail drop for fan mail
to actors....
As mentioned before, we're phasing out the forwarding of fan mail because we a)
don't have the resources, complicated by b) the actors have scattered to the
four winds, and it makes it very difficult to get everything to everybody in a
timely fashion.
So, having provided prior notice...fan mail to actors coming to the Ventura
Blvd. mail drop will be sent back. Mail to actors should be sent via their
official fan clubs. I will still be taking mail there, since it's my mailbox,
but that's it.
Just so's y'all know and save a few bucks on postage and returns.
