The Zocalo Today
Welcome! I am REALLY glad you dropped by. Take your shoes off, get comfortable and stay a while.
The Zocalo Today is an interactive newsletter. If you have suggestions, please
send them along. The Zocalo Today is as much YOUR newsletter as it is
mine! I'm just pulling together things for you! Join our weekly discussion
topic. It is just one way you can interact with other Z readers. Send along
letters, sightings of B5 cast and crew in other projects, convention
reports, photos, etc. Don't miss our back issues. There is a LOT of information
contained there and you'll not want to miss anything.
Congratulations to Bart Gregg -- the Babylon 5 fan whose name will be used in the new Babylon 5 movie!
JMS has provided a bit more information on the graphic novel he's working on for Babylon 5. That and more has been
added to the JMS Speaks page.
The numbers are out for the week of 4/23/01 - 4/29/01. Crusade was #2 with a .9 rating and Babylon 5 was not
far behind with a .8!! Here are all the ratings: Invisible Man 1.0; Crusade 0.9; John Edward 0.9;
Babylon 5 0.8; Farscape 0.8; Nightmare 13th Floor 0.8; Pumpkinhead 0.8; They Nest 0.8; The Outer Limits 0.8, and
Howling 3 0.7. Remember, for B5 and Crusade, the numbers reflect the highest rating for a single episode for the
week.
Over at Disney Auctions, you can bid on several one-of-a-kind experiences and exclusive items from Atlantis:
The Lost Empire. One item is lunch with Claudia Christian -- who is the voice of "Helga".
Jeanne Cavelos has had some interesting comments on Crusade and technomages in general. I thought you might be
interested, so I've placed them on a Crusade Page.
May 19:
BUFFY: In a meeting with NY advertising executives, Joss Whedon, creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, said "Next
year, we are going to explode." "I'm so excited! I'm so excited, and I hope you are too."
DEAD ZONE: After a lot of mixed signals, UPN showed advertising execs a glimpse of Stephen King's The Dead Zone,
starring Anthony Michael Hall in it's premiere episode. The new series, based on King's best-selling novel and
the 1983 film of the same name, is produced by Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's Michael Piller; his son, Shawn; Kevin
Beggs; and Lloyd Segan. In the first episode, Hall stars as Johnny Smith, "a young man who awakens from a coma to
discover that he has the power to see the past and foretell the future."
SPIDEY/XENA: Yes, Lucy Lawless has made a cameo appearance in the upcoming Spiderman movie! You can read all about
her experience -- and her new look -- over at www.scifi.com.
VOYAGER: Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine) has signed on play a teacher on the Fox drama Boston Public.
ENTERPRISE: In a presentation to advertising and network executives, UPN's Tom Nunan described the new series as
"Set in the 22nd century, nearly 150 years before James T. Kirk and only 100 years from now, Enterprise introduces
us to the pioneering days of space exploration, when interstellar travel is in its infancy, and a universe — and the
unknown — portends both danger and awe. Appropriately, the crew of Enterprise exhibits a sense of wonder as well as
a little trepidation about the strange things and beings they will encounter. Being among the first to explore deep
space, they will have to prove they are ready for life among the stars."
V: With all the talk of bringing back old shows, V has surfaced along with many others. Kenneth Johnson told SFX
magazine that bringing back the show comes up all the time. "I have a notion of a way to do the second generation.
I think the way the story would have to play out is that at the end of the original mini-series we send a signal for
help out to another alien race that is supposedly the Visitors' enemies.
May 18:
ROSWELL: UPN has picked up Roswell for next season! Yes, UPN is expected to make the announcement today. It is
expected that Buffy will air at 8pm and Roswell at 9pm on Tuesday nights.
RATINGS: The Top 10 SF Network Shows: The X-Files 7.4; Dark Angel 6.0; Voyager 3.0; Buffy 3.0; Angel 2.8;
Roswell 2.6; Lone Gunmen 2.5; Charmed 2.5; Special Unit 2 1.8, and Oblongs 1.6.
ENTERPRISE: UPN formally announced the new Star Trek series Enterprise yesterday. Enterprise will take place in the
22nd century, about 150 years before the events in the original series and about 100 years from now. The show will focus
"on the history of the galactic upheaval that leads to the formation of the Federation." You can read more about the
show and it's new crew over at www.scifi.com
X-FILES: Looks as if the show will return for a ninth season, but who will be involved with it? That is very much
up in the air as yet. Chris Carter is still negotiating with Fox; David Douchovny will not return, but Gillian
Anderson is still under contract, so at least Scully will be there!
JOHN EDWARDS: John Edward will chat over at SCIFI on May 31. If you are fascinated with his program in which he
communicates with the dead, you'll not want to miss the chat at 6pmPT/9pmET.
VOYAGER: The Star Trek website has a synopsis and pictures of the final episode of Star Trek Voyager.
Be sure to drop over and look at the photos and videos from the wrap party as well.
May 17: ENTERPRISE: It's official - UPN will air the new Star Trek series this fall. The announcement yesterday squelched
rumors that the Trek series might go to Fox or even NBC! The series may be officially announced today during a presentation
of the UPN fall schedule in New York.
LONE GUNMEN: The X-File spin-off is not expected to be on WB's fall schedule. The network will be moving things
around as well, putting Dark Angel on Friday night.
ROSWELL: Fans of the teen-alien show have continued their fight to save their show. They have written thousands of
letters to UPN asking them to pick up the show from WB for the coming fall season. In addition to letters, fans
mailed more than 12,000 bottles of Tabasco--the aliens' favorite condiment--to UPN in hopes of persuading them to
pick the show up for a third season.
INVISIBLE MAN: This popular SCIFI original is listening to their fans! In fact, there are references to them
sprinkled throughout the show as a kind of tribute. Associate Producer Paul Leonard told SCI FI Wire that "We pay
attention to their chats and their comments on episodes that they like and don't like, and I know Vincent Ventresca
and Paul Ben Victor are aware of comments, and they've talked to me about it in the past."
May 16:
ENTERRPRISE: Things are moving with the new series, now that it has a timeslot and production has begun. The first
episode, directed by James L. Conway and will be entitled "Broken Bow". The story concerns the crew's first encounter
with Klingons. Some of the new crew members have been talking about their new uniforms. The Voyager-like jumpsuits
are solid navy-colored with contrasting yoke and shoulder piping in colors designating status or ship's functions,
and are completed with a black mock turtleneck.
WITCHBLADE: Production continues in Canada on the new series set to premiere on June 12. They are finishing
up episode #8 of the 11 ordered by TNT. How are things going? Star Yancy Butler says she couldn't be prouder of the
work being done. The 11 episodes make up "one big arc," said Butler, who plays NYPD Detective Sara Pezzini. "We have
different ... episodic crimes, but all of them tend to be pretty much related to the others, which is pretty cool.
RATINGS: The Top 10 Syndicated Shows: The X-Files 3.6; 3rd Rock 3.2; Andromeda 2.9; Stargate SG-1 2.9;
Xena 2.8; Earth: Final Conflict 1.8; Invisible Man 1.8; Profiler 1.8; Sheena 1.8, and The Outer Limits 1.6.
WOLF LAKE: While not definite, the Hollywood Reporter indicates that Wolf Lake may be on the fall schedule for
CBS. The series focuses on investigators who probe mysterious activities among wolves in the Pacific Northwest and will
star Lou Diamond Phillips.
VOYAGER: Robert Beltran has been very vocal about his displeasure with Voyager over the past year. Now that the
series has ended and the series finale is about to air, he talks about "Endgame" and his disappointment with it. You can
read more over at cinescape.com
CAMERON AND COUSTEAU: James Cameron and Jean-Michel Cousteau are joining together to produce a series of TV
special for ABC. The subject will be the deep seas that have never been photographed before. They plan to use
the latest state-of-the-art equipment along with a high-tech exploration vessel. The Titanic will be the subject
of the first special.
LEGEND OF THE RANGERS
Northwest Fan Wins B5 Contest
Babylon 5 fan Bart Gregg of Moses Lake, Wash., won SCIFI.COM's B5: Be in the Movie Contest to have a character named
after him in The SCI FI Channel's upcoming original television movie Babylon 5: The Legend of the Rangers. A starship
captain will carry Gregg's name.
Gregg was one of more than 15,500 fans who entered the contest for a chance to be immortalized in the upcoming movie,
which began production in Vancouver, B.C., on May 14.
B5: The Legend of the Rangers comes from the original creative team behind B5. Douglas Netter and creator J. Michael
Straczynski will executive produce the movie, which Straczynski wrote and Michael Vejar will direct. Rangers picks up
the story of the Ranger fleet as it attempts to restore order to hundreds of civilizations devastated by the Shadow
War. Rangers will serve as the pilot for a potential SCI FI Channel series.
CHRISTOPHER FRANKE - B5's MUSIC MAN
In a brief note to the b5 newsgroup, JMS announced that Christopher Franke will be doing the music for
"Legend of the Rangers". When I say brief, I mean brief. He said, "...did I mention that Chris Franke
is doing the music for the new B5 project?"
The SCI FI Channel announced casting for its upcoming original television movie Babylon 5: The Legend of the Rangers.
Dylan Neal, Alex Zahara (Dark Angel), Myriam Sirois (Babylon 5), Dean Marshall, Warren T. Takeuchi, Jennie Rebecca
Hogan, David Storch, Enid-Raye Adams and Gus Lynch will join Mackenzie Gray and Andreas Katsulas (G'Kar) in the movie.
Legend of the Rangers begins production May 14 in Vancouver and Toronto, SCI FI announced. Rangers, from the creators
of B5, is the pilot for a possible SCI FI series.
More information on "Legend of the Rangers" can be found on the Rangers page,
including some websites for the cast members.

fantastic prices. Check out Photo Shop. Ordering is easy -- and you can't
beat the prices! Just let me know which photos you want and I'll check to make sure they are still in stock.

sure to look for Robin! He's the Director.
BABYLON 5/CRUSADE CHRONOLOGY
Terry Jones created a FANTASTIC Babylon 5/Crusade Chronology that was published in the Official Babylon 5 magazine.
He has not stopped with the end of the series though. He has included items from the latest novels as well as things
from the Crusade series. Here's a note from Terry to tell you all about it.
To look at the timeline in a different way, I have been working with Terry Jones on personal chronologies for the
Babylon 5 universe. At The Galactic Gateway you will fine Parts 1-4
of the chronology for John Sheridan along with Part 1 for KOSH. Others will follow. I hope you will visit GG and give
the chronologies a look.
Terry has made some changes to the segment we had last month on The 21th Century so a
new version is out along with the 22nd Century.

TOONS FOR CHARITY -- GREAT JOB
Tye Bourdony (www.thelightersideofscifi.com) and Claudia Christian recently are paired to bring a few more
dollars to the John Wayne Cancer Foundation. Claudia signed one of Tye's satires (a one of a kind) and it was
auctioned off at the Globelist Charities for the John Wayne Cancer Foundation. The winning bid was $270!
Congratulations to the person who picked up this great piece.
Tye currently has new items for Erin Gray and Richard Hatch over the globelist auction site. He will be
offering a new piece for Bill Mumy soon.

BABYLON 5 REFERENCE PAGES
The Official Babylon 5 Magazine is indexed here as well. With the closure of the magazine in May, you'll want
to see which magazines you have -- and which ones you will want to collect. The index may help you make a decision
on which ones to choose. The Fan Club has many of the issues at thestation.com ,
making it very easy to complete your collection.
Universe Today -- the Babylon 5 Fan Club quarterly can also be found here. The index gives you a
rundown of what articles were presented, what interviews published.
If you have magazines that have featured Babylon 5 or Crusade that are not listed, send along their issue
number and a note to indicate what the article was about. It would be nice to have a fairly comprehensive
listing of Babylon 5 publications here.
I have added a listing of all the Babylon 5 novels and now the B5 comic books to the reference page. If there
are other items that you feel should be included, let me know.
MAILING LISTS

CALLING ALL ARTISTS
The Art Gallery at The Zocalo Today is open. There
are SO MANY talented people in our Babylon 5 community. We have enjoyed works by Todd Brugman and Tye Bourdony
on our toons page, but there are a host of others who enjoy drawing, painting, sketching their favorite characters.
Here are a few works that have been received. I have some others that will be added soon.
If you would like to share your work with us at The Zocalo Today, please send along a digital photo of your
work and I'll begin putting the gallery together. If you do not have your work in digital format, drop me
a note and we'll see what we can work out.
CALLING ALL CLUBS
There are a number of fabulous Babylon 5/Crusade Clubs around the world. I'd like to begin listing them here
on The Zocalo Today. Eric dropped me a note the other day providing information about a Club in France. I know
there are other clubs in Brazil, Germany, Russia -- and who knows how many here in the US. Let's get a
listing together. Perhaps we can share resources, even get together as we travel around. Drop the information
about your Club to me at sgbruckner@aol.com or bruckner@isnnews.net. That information will be added to the
new B5 Fan Club Listing.
BABYLON 5 FAN CLUB
Sad news. I don't know what the fate of the B5 Fan Club will be. Netter Digital filed for bankruptcy
in July and all their worldly posessions were auctioned off on December 7.
Thestation.com is back on-line, however the Emporium has been closed.
BABYLON 5 NEWSLETTERS
If you have a newsletter you'd like to have listed at The Zocalo Today, send the information along. It

MAIL FOR CAST AND CREW
Here's a recent note from JMS on the subject:
Just an FYI to those who've been using the Ventura Blvd. mail drop for fan mail
to actors....
As mentioned before, we're phasing out the forwarding of fan mail because we a)
don't have the resources, complicated by b) the actors have scattered to the
four winds, and it makes it very difficult to get everything to everybody in a
timely fashion.
So, having provided prior notice...fan mail to actors coming to the Ventura
Blvd. mail drop will be sent back. Mail to actors should be sent via their
official fan clubs. I will still be taking mail there, since it's my mailbox,
but that's it.
Just so's y'all know and save a few bucks on postage and returns.
JMS' mail can be sent to:
14431 Ventura Boulevard, PMB 260
Sherman Oaks, CA 91423
