SYNOPSIS:
Chernobyl Diaries is an original story from Oren Peli, who first terrified audiences with his groundbreaking thriller, "Paranormal Activity."

The film follows a group of six young vacationers who, looking to go off the beaten path, hire an "extreme" tour guide. Ignoring warnings, he takes them into the city of Pripyat, the former home to the workers of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor, but a deserted town since the disaster more than 25 years ago.

After a brief exploration of the abandoned city, however, the group soon finds themselves stranded, only to discover that they are not alone...

Brad Parker makes his feature film directorial debut with "Chernobyl Diaries." The screenplay was written by Oren Peli and Carey Van Dyke & Shane Van Dyke, based on a story by Peli. Peli also produces, with Brian Witten. Richard Sharkey, Rob Cowan, Andrew A. Kosove, Broderick Johnson, Allison Silver, Milan Popelka and Alison Cohen serve as executive producers.

The film's cast includes Devin Kelley, Jonathan Sadowski, Ingrid Bols¿ Berdal, Olivia Taylor Dudley, Jesse McCartney, Nathan Phillips and Dimitri Diatchenko.

REVIEW

CHERNOBYL conjurs up only one word to me -- radioactive. While it has been over 20 years since the nuclear accident, there hasn't been a lot of information on the outcome. Given that, this movie presents one fictional outcome.

In pursuit of an exciting vacation, six young people hire an "extreme" tour guide to take them into Chernobyl to see the abandoned city. After considerable assurances that the radiation level is acceptable, they take off in an old camoflague van with Yuri, their guide.

At a number of places in the movie, you are shocked by monster fish, a pack of wolves and creepy shadowy creatures. It really gets serious when they get into the van after wandering through the living quarters. The van won't start because it had been disabled and it is getting dark. Now what? Yuri and one brother go off in the hopes of getting to the military check-point they had see earlier in the day. Yuri did have a gun, but as they walked into the darkness shots ring out. They find one guy but not the other.

I don't want to spoil the movie for anyone -- but I found that I was sitting on the edge of my seat until the final frame. This movie was not a big budget blockbuster, but the acting and directing was quite good -- along with a really good story.
